GAIL FRANCES SMITH

 Gail F. Smith, 84, died of lung cancer on Sunday, August 25, 2024 in United Hospice of Marlette, MI. She was born on October 8, 1939 in Rock Island, IL to Frank and Martha (Crowl) Porter. She married Wayne W. Smith on March 1, 1958 in Waterloo, IA. He died July 10, 1997. 

Gail graduated from East High School in Waterloo, IA in 1957, and later graduated from Hawkeye Community College as a travel agent. She loved to cook, collect and sell antiques, read, play bridge, and tell stories. Gail arranged many bus trips to raise money for the Rawson Memorial Library, which resulted in her being awarded the Walter Kaiser Award from the State of Michigan Library. Her biggest passion was placing and hosting foreign students for ASSE (International Student Exchange Program) for over twenty years. This resulted in many everlasting friendships.

 Gail is survived by her three children: Kellie Snigar Bogen of Lebanon, OH; Eric (Theresa) Smith of Centerville, OH; Ryan (Thomas Carron) Smith of Clawson, MI; half-sister, Ruth (Brian) Kelleher of Indianola, IA; three grandchildren: Rusell Smith Mason, Jenna Cashion-Smith, Adam Smith; many nieces and nephews. Gail is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; half-sisters: Regina Van Horn, Gwena Peterson, Edna Bowers; half-brothers: Larry Holmes, Maurice Bonds; sons-in-law: David Snigar, Mark Bogen.

 A celebration of Gail’s life will be held at a later date in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Sam Leppert Funeral Celebrant officiating. Memorials may be made to Rawson Memorial Library or ASSE.
