CLARA MAE GAFFNEY,
80, of Cass City, died following a short illness, Saturday, September 1, 2012 in St. Mary's Medical Center, Saginaw. She was born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1932 in South Dakota to Edward Bryan and Edith (Stark) Horr.
Clara worked as a bookkeeper for Ubly Motor Sales for many years. She worked for several years as a part time secretary for Salem United Methodist Church. Most recently Clara worked at Knight Insurance helping with various assignments. She was a very active member of Cass City United Methodist Church and formerly Salem United Methodist Church. She volunteered for many jobs at the church including distributing the weekly church bulletin to those unable to attend the service. Clara was a member of the former Cass City Business and Professional Woman's club, the current Cass City Woman's Life Chapter #848. She was a very active volunteer: helping Revive Ministries with their food banks; HDC helping to distribute commodities to those unable to drive to pick up their portions; the Woman's Domestic Violence Center delivering donations from the Cass City area. Clara also enjoyed knitting and many friends and family members are fortunate to own her dishcloths and potholders. She loved her miniature dachshunds and the Detroit Tigers. Watching Wheel of Fortune and the weather each day were pleasures not to be interrupted.
Clara is survived by her children: Karen (Jim McIntosh) Osentoski of Goodrich, Kevin (Peggy) Gaffney of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren: Tavis (Carrie) Osentoski of Cass City, Rory Osentoski of Cass City, Blair (Emily Creason) Osentoski of Cass City, Summer Osentoski of Ypsilanti, Joanna Gaffney of Gulfport, MS; great grandchildren: Elijah, Collen, Quincy, and Haven; great great granddaughter, Fayt; sisters: Lucille (Tom) Stack of Beaverton, Shirley (Richard) Forchee of Fairgrove; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by two infant children and her sister, Paulette.
Funeral service held 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Rev. Jackie Roe officiating. Pallbearers for Clara are: Tavis Osentoski, Rory Osentoski, Blair Osentoski, Summer Osentoski, Joanna Gaffney and Elijah Osentoski. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
