MICHAEL DENNIS GAFFKA
Not a single moment with a million stars, but rather a million moments with a single star, will light one’s soul for a lifetime. Thank you, Mike, for shining so bright in so many people’s lives.
Michael D. Gaffka, 57 of Evergreen, AL, died Sunday, May 20, 2018 in the VA Hospital in Birmingham, AL following a short illness. He was born October 3, 1960 in Livonia the first of two sons born to Anthony and Mary Ann (Stevenson) Gaffka.
Mike graduated from South Lyon High School with the class of 1978. He spent 14 years serving his country in the United States Air Force with pride, honor and distinction. Serving in England, Japan and many bases across the USA, the country that he truly loved. Mike was an avid outdoorsman, loving hunting and fishing. He enjoyed sharing his wealth of outdoor knowledge to many generations of friends and family. He would rather watch someone he taught have success in the field or on the water than get something himself. Mike was the kind of friend you could really count on, even when you did not ask. If he loved you, you were family and he would do anything for you.
Michael is survived by his true love, Leigh Anne Crawford; children: Christie (Ian) Gaffka-Boykin of Chandler, AZ, Shenandoah Gaffka of San Tan Valley, AZ, Mitchell Gaffka of San Tan Valley, AZ; mother, Mary Ann Gaffka of South Lyon, MI (who died three weeks later); brother, Patrick (Anne) Gaffka of Westland; grandchildren: Cheyanne Gaffka and Ryan Dravis; nephew, John Gaffka of Westland; nieces: Emily Gaffka and Sarah Gaffka of Westland; aunts: Patricia (James) Green, Ellen Joyce (Charles) Maltese; uncle, Arnold Gaffka; many cousins and more friends than you can count. If you were Mike’s friend, you were his “Framily” (the family you choose along the path of life). He is preceded in death by his father, Anthony; grandparents, John Gaffka, Mildred Adkins, C. Thomas and Velma Stevenson; aunt, Vera Mae Hock; uncle, Charles (Ila Mae) Gaffka,
Memorials may be made to Lone Survivor Foundation, 2636 S. Loop West, Suite 280, Houston, TX 77054. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
Mike will be truly missed by everyone that his life touched.
