THEODORE “TED” MERRITT FURNESS,
79 of Cass City, died Tuesday evening, March 15, 2022 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Pontiac. He was born June 14, 1942 in Morris Hospital of Cass City to Bernard and Mable (Hess) Furness. Ted and Janet Alane Jackson were married December 19, 1992 at the Masonic Temple in Cass City.
Ted graduated from Kinde High School and after graduating joined the U.S. Navy, serving in Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Savage as a RM2 radioman. After naval service, Ted worked as part of machine setup engineering at Walbro, retiring 27 years later. Ted always loved construction and carpentry which drove him to obtain a contractor’s license and start his own private contracting company. His motto was “no job too small”. Ted’s hobbies included golfing, deer hunting, fishing, and winter lawn mower racing on ice. He also loved to read books, especially western stories with his favorite authors being Louis L’Amour and Clive Cussler.
Ted is survived by his wife, Janet; children: Tracy (Jim) Bellanger of Holland; Tina (William) Rippey of Detroit; Michael (Joann) Furness of Ft. Riley, KS; Todd (Tanya) Furness of Caro; Jonathan Sherman of Cass City; Joshua (Saraanne) Sherman of Union, KY; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, George (Margo) Turner of Vassar; sister, Val Knowlton. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Charlotte Mellendorf, Vi Pena.
