IMOGENE FLEMING
Imogene Fleming, 85, of Cass City, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro, following a short illness. She was born March 5, 1922 in Ozark, AR to Dewey Curtis and Reta (Wisdom) Alston. She married Percy Edwin Fleming March 12, 1946 in Pontiac. He died March 16, 1981.
Imogene and her husband Ed owned and operated Eddie’s Sports Bar and Lounge in Hazel Park and then Kentucky Bar on Grand River in Detroit. Imogene and Ed owned race horses during World War II. They were members of the U.S. Trotting Association and the Michigan Harness Horse Association. They retired to Cass City in 1976. Imogene loved to read, watch movies, play Bingo and play cards, especially Pinochle. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, making quilts and afghans, watching horses and attending garage sales with her sister.
Imogene is survived by her children: Janna (David) Otto of San Diego, CA, Edwin Curtis Fleming of Cass City; grandchildren: Christopher Otto, Daniel Otto, Kimberly (Sam) Tawfik; great grandchildren: Benjamin, Elijah, Sydney, Sarah, and Madeline; mother, Reta Louise Alston, 106, at home in Cass City; nieces: Tammy Lawrence, Sandy Bitner, Carolyn Lawrence, Debbie Beckham. She is preceded in death by her son, David Jeffery (Jeff) Fleming; sisters: Zella Mae Alston and Patsy Lawrence; brother, Dewey Curtis (DC) Alston.
Memorial service held 11:00 a.m. Sunday, January 13, 2008 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Debra Kranz, Funeral Service Celebrant, officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the memorial service at the Cass City VFW Hall Post #3644. Interment will take place at a later date in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City.
