GEORGE SYLVESTER FISHER JR.
86, of Cass City, died Saturday, February 11, 2023. He was born May 8, 1936 at home in Greenleaf Township to George and Elizabeth (Reitter) Fisher Sr. He married Norma Marlene Brown on September 7, 1954 in Fraser Presbyterian Church.
George graduated from Cass City High School in 1954. After several short-term occupations, he retired from the Cass City Public School District where he was happily employed as a custodian and bus driver for more than twenty-four years. George’s life was highlighted by many hobbies including camping, hunting, motorcycle riding, wintering in Florida, and taking a “dream-come-true” retirement trip to Alaska. A man of prayer, he was also a member of First Baptist Church of Cass City and instilled a strong love of Christ in his family.
George is survived by his children: Dianna (Rocky) Culpepper of Ocala, FL; Marlene (Jerry) Langmaid of Cass City, George S. Fisher III of Cass City, Elizabeth (Dan) Manwell of Caro; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters: Carol Hartwick of Caro; Kathleen (Charles) Hartwick of Cass City; E. Jeanne (John) Shagena of Kingston; sister-in-law, Jean Fisher of Cass City; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Norma; son, James Fisher; brother, Arthur Fisher.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023 in First Baptist Church of Cass City with Pastor Christian Wright and George’s son-in-law, Pastor Rocky Culpepper officiating. A dinner will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery in the spring. Memorials may be designated to the family and will be donated at a later date.
