THERON BERTON ESCKILSEN,
88, of Cass City, died following a brief illness, Sunday, September 29, 2019 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. He was born April 26, 1931 in Akron to Arthur and Mildred (Edgerton) Esckilsen. He was married to Judith A. Dickinson from 1954 to 1989. He later married Mabel I. Sarow January 22, 1992 in Caro. She died October 12, 2014.
Theron attended Cass City Schools and Bethel College of Indiana. An industrious and hardworking man, he owned a commercial and residential painting business for twenty-five years. Theron took great pride in landscaping his property and working outdoors. Skilled at folk art wood crafting, he made wooden plaques and restored furniture. Theron loved collecting antiques. He was particularly fond of wood furniture and antique farm tools.
Theron is survived by his children: Joanne Hopper of Cass City; Karen (David) Gaffney of Saginaw; Stephen (Karen) Esckilsen of Saginaw; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Clinton (Joyce) Esckilsen of Nakoma, ND; sister, Iva Rockwell of Cass City; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel; son-in-law, Kim Hopper; brother, Alvin Esckilsen; sisters: Bertha Hahn, Esther Guinther, Viola Layer.
Funeral service held 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Brad Speirs of Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City.
