JEAN DRINKWATER
Jean Drinkwater, 84, of Mayville, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 in Covenant Health Care System Harrison Campus, Saginaw. She was born July 12, 1923 in Dexter to David and Mary Evelyn (Banghart) Steptoe. She married William James Drinkwater May 6, 1945 in Dexter. He died September 22, 1991.
Jean attended Albion College and received her Bachelors Degree from University of Michigan. She received her Masters Degree in Education from University of Detroit. Jean was a math teacher and math specialist with the Detroit Public Schools. Jean and Bill retired to the family Centennial Homestead in 1985. She enjoyed arranging family gatherings on the farm. Jean was a former member of the Redford United Methodist Church in Detroit, St. Matthews Methodist Church in Detroit and was a current member of the Kingston United Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Thumb Thimbles Quilt Guild. Jean enjoyed researching family genealogy, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her children: Janet (Tom) Burke of Littleton, CO, Karen (Michael) Posa of Mayville, Kris (John) Leary of Rockville, MD; grandchildren: Craig (Irene) Gill, Mark (Kim) Gill, Kelley (Steve) Messall, Kristen Burke, Michael Leary, Anna Leary; great grandchildren: Brendan, Savannah, David, Jason, Travis, Ashleigh; son-in-law, Thomas (Barb) Gill; brother, William (Mary Ann) Steptoe of Dexter; sister, Mary Kimmel of Dexter; sister-in-law, Bette Pflugrad of Southfield; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Gill.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2008 in Kranz Funeral Home Kingston with Rev. Paul Donelson of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Utica Cemetery, Utica. Pallbearers for Mrs. Drinkwater: Kelley Messall, Kristen Burke, Michael Leary, Anna Leary, Bill Pflugrad, Steve Messall, Craig Gill, Mark Gill. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International.
