RICHARD THERON DONAHUE
84, formerly of Cass City, died peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022, in HealthPark Medical Center, Fort Myers, FL. He was born on April 8, 1937, in Cass City to Dr. Harold and Alice (Fromm) Donahue. January 10, 1981, he married Margo (Schmalzried) Isard in Trinity Methodist Church of Cass City.
Dick graduated from Cass City High School in 1955. He completed a two-year Ag Tech Degree, as well as a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture from Michigan State University in 1963. Dick served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves from December 1959 thru December 1965.
He spent much of his life farming. When he wasn’t in the fields, he was farming ‘thru the windshield’ checking rain gauges and using his always present jackknife to check the maturity of a sugar beet plant. Dick was a strong community-minded man and a part of many committees and community projects. He served as treasurer of the Tuscola County MSU Alumni Association for ten years. Dick represented Ag Tech as a member of the MSU Agricultural Alumni Board and was a long-time member of the Chemical Bank Advisory Board. He hosted the first Ag Expo in Tuscola County in 1976. Dick served as chairperson for the Tuscola County Road Commission and the Tuscola County EDC board. He was a Columbia Township Trustee, a chairperson of the Pinney Foundation, and was a member of the Tuscola County Community Foundation. Dick also served on the Tuscola County Parks and Recreation Board.
Dick is survived by his wife, Margo; children: Douglas (Cassandra) Donahue of Panama City Beach, FL; Dawn ( Mark) Schulert of Lake Arrowhead, CA; Matt (Karianne) Isard of Spring Lake; Andrea (Brad) Smith of Paw Paw; grandchildren: Autumn Donahue (Tanner Stanley), Elizabeth Schulert, Rebecca Schulert, David Schulert, Reese Isard, Gage Isard, Krew Isard, Ramsay Smith, Frank Smith; one great grandchild, Bexlee Richard Stanley. He was predeceased by his parents.
Visitation will take place from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022, in Cass City United Methodist Church. Memorial service at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Donald Wojewski of Caseville United Methodist Church officiating. Interment in Almer Township Cemetery, Caro at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 23, 2022.
