BERNARD L. DILLON
Bernard L. Dillon, 81, of Cass City, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in his home with his family by his side. He was born January 17, 1928 in Caro to Leslie John and Elva May (Robarts) Dillon. He married Elizabeth Balazs March 31, 1951 in St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown. She died August 29, 1994. He later married Kay F. Herr Periso April 10, 1995 in Caro.
Bernard served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Bremerton at the end of World War II. He worked for AC Spark Plug in Flint after returning from the service. Bernard drove truck for several years then took a job with General Cable retiring after over 27 years. Bernard was a member of the Caro American Legion Post and Cass City VFW Post #3644. He loved being outside. Bernard enjoyed nature walks, picnics in the woods, morel and asparagus hunting, and country drives to watch deer. Most of all he loved doing all of this with his family. The family fresh perch fries and Dillon Day were among his favorites.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Kay; children: B. John (Linda) Dillon of Cass City, Gary L. (Lynn) Dillon of Cass City, Mary (Scott) Mellendorf of Cass City, Carol (Erik) Rurikson of Unionville; grandchildren: Tanya (Robert) McNeil, Elizabeth Dillon, Angela (Eric) Szidik, Eric (Andrea) Dillon, Sarah Dillon, David (Tosha) Mellendorf; great grandchildren: Nicholas, Natasha, Mikayla, Aden, Ethan, Ryan, Matthew, Brady and the 9th due in July; sisters: Jane (Jim) Kamraad of Birch Run, Joan (Tom) Hendricks of Cass City; sisters-in-law: Lois Dillon, Joan Smith; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his nephew, Richard Dillon; brothers: Leonard Dillon, Gerald Dillon and Richard Dillon; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Dillon and Audrey Dillon; and his parents.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Stephen J. Fillion officiating. Interment will be in St. Agatha Cemetery, Gagetown. Pallbearers for Mr. Dillon are: Eric Szidik, Eric Dillon, David Mellendorf, Bob McNeil, Jeff Mellendorf and Larry McClorey. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund.
