GARY EDWARD DEERING,
82, of Cass City passed away on January 26, 2023 in Deckerville Community Hospital from complications related to COVID-19. He was born June 10, 1940 in Saginaw to Edward and Vera Mae (Kohl) Deering. He married Rebecca Ruth Larson.
Gary graduated from Cass City High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years. Gary lived the majority of his life in Cass City, where he farmed the land he acquired from his parents. He worked as a general contractor, building and remodeling homes for many people in the community. Gary was known for hosting many social gatherings including Euchre tournaments, Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve parties at the farm in “The Shop”. Although he had been in declining health for several years, he enjoyed seeing a rejuvenation of the family farm; especially, after selling it to Amos and Miriam Miller, who were a great support to him in his later years.
Gary is survived by his wife, Rebecca Deering; daughters: Amanda (husband, Robert Pruitt) Deering of Lafayette, IN; Deidre Deering of Lafayette, IN; sister, Rose Marie Dubey; his beloved dog, Carter. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Ruth Spencer.
Memorial service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Sam Leppert, funeral celebrant officiating. Military honors conducted by Cass City V.F.W. Post #3644 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Interment will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Sanilac County Humane Society.
