PHYLLIS MARGARET COX
Phyllis M. Cox, 84, of Deford, died Sunday, August 1, 2004, in Marlette Community Hospital. She was born March 12, 1920 in Shabbona to Avon and Margaret (Phillips) Boag. She married Elmore Caister October 25, 1939, after his death, she married Kenneth Churchill December 16, 1946, he died December 20, 1975. She later married Clarence Cox on May 29, 1979 in Deford United Methodist Church.
Phyllis worked Cass City Public School System as a cook and bus driver, retiring after 22 years. She was a member of Deford United Methodist Church, Deford Good Neighbors Club, United Methodist Women, and Michigan Education Employee Retirement. Phyllis was one of the first women involved in the plumbing and heating business in Cass City, first with Boag & Caister, then with Boag & Churchill. She was one of the first to start the Senior Meal Site in Cass City. Phyllis enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, and visiting with family, friends and neighbors.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Clarence, Argyle Road, Snover, children: Ann Smith of Caro, Carol (Jim) Savedge) of Clarkston, Charles (Kathy) Churchill of Burlington, Ontario, and Dale (Patricia) Churchill of Deford; daughter-in-law, Gayle Churchill of Elberon, NJ, son-in-law, Arnold Leach of Flint; grandchildren: Kevin (Bonnie) Churchill, Karen (Don) DeMarco, Michael (Amy) Smith, Toby (Janet) Smith, Sean Smith, Tim (Diane) Swalwell, Tamara Swalwell, Wade (Cathy) Swalwell, Nathan Churchill, Lyndsey Churchill, Corinne (Brandon) Rogers, Jennifer Churchill, Stacey Churchill, and Katherine Churchill; great grandchildren: Shelby, Taylor, Madeline, Evan, Cameron, Charlotte, Olivia, Jamie, Josh, Ty, Cody, Galilee, Guinness, Eloise, Jordon, and Jenna; sister, Donna Miller; brother-in-law, Bill Bird; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Vernon Churchill, daughter, Janice Leach, sister, Jean Bird, brothers-in-law: Donald Peterson and Henry Miller.
Funeral service held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2004 in Kingston United Methodist with Rev. Terry Butters officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to Kingston United Methodist Church or Cass City Public Schools.
