Elva Pine Cox, the third of six children of the late Leo and Mary Seurynck died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Hills & Dales General Hospital in Cass City. Elva was born in Anchorville, Michigan in 1916.

In the 1930s, the family relocated to the Gagetown area. Previous to moving to Cass City, Elva lived at the Pine family farm in the Gagetown-Unionville area.

Elva was united in marriage to Vilas Pine in 1936. He preceded her in death in 1965.
She married Gordon Cox in 1990.

Elva was a homemaker and a nurse, working in various medical facilities in Caro and Cass City.

She was a lifelong member of St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown and St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City, and a member of the Altar Society. Elva enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, sewing and was an avid reader.

Surviving are her husband, Gordon, of Cass City; two daughters, Bonnie Meyer, Bloomfield Hills; Janice Wall, Atlanta, GA; one son, Michael (Tori) Pine, Unionville; sister Agatha Lafave of Grand Rapids; 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Margaret, who died while a child and a victim of a devastating family home fire in Anchorville; a brother, Leo Seurynck, and two sisters, Mamie Dillon Russell and Helen Dillon Stock. During her life Elva suffered the devastating loss of her much loved daughter, Kally Maharg and son-in-law, William Meyer.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Gagetown. Rev. Stephen J. Fillion will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kranz Funeral Home in Cass City from 2 to 5 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday. She will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Agatha Catholic Church’s Ladies Aid.
