Clarence H. Cox, 95, of Deford, died Saturday, December 4, 2004 in Tendercare Nursing Facility. He was born June 25, 1909 in Ubana, IL to Elwin and Lessie E. (Dunn) Cox. He married Beulah McRobbie November 15, 1935 at home in Marlette. She died December 17, 1977. He then married Phyllis M. Boag May 29, 1979 in Deford United Methodist Church. Phyllis died August 1, 2004.
Clarence served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. DeGrasse. He was based in Pearl Harbor for two years. Clarence was a farmer. He enjoyed Harness racing, flower gardening and oil painting. He was a member of Cass City VFW Post #3644 and a former member of the Kingston VFW Post #5317. Clarence raised Ann and Carol. At one time Clarence attended Pilgrim Holiness Church in Kingston. He later attended Deford United Methodist Church with Phyllis.
Clarence is survived by his nieces: Ann Smith of Caro, Carol (Jim) Savedge of Clarkston; brothers: Earl (Jean Marie) Cox of Burnside, Homer (Charlotte) Cox of North Carolina, sisters: Jennie Roach of Lapeer, Marthalessie Brundige of WA; sister-in-law, Helen Cox of Sandusky; step-children: Charles (Kathy) Churchill of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Dale (Patty) Churchill of Deford; grandchildren: Kevin (Bonnie) Churchill, Karen (Don) DeMarco, Michael (Amy) Smith, Toby (Janet) Smith, Sean Smith, Tim (Diane) Swalwell, Tamara Swalwell, Wade (Cathy) Swalwell, Nathan Churchill, Lyndsey Churchill, Corinne (Brandon) Rogers, Jennifer Churchill, Stacey Churchill and Katherine Churchill; great grandchildren: Shelby, Taylor, Madeline, Evan, Cameron, Charlotte, Olivia, Jamie, Josh, Ty, Cody, Galilee, Guinness, Eloise, Jordon and Jenna; special friends, Fred and Gloria Kritzman of Snover. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Lawrence Cox, Lloyd Cox, Merle Cox, and Harold Cox; sister, Rachel Remer; and nephew, Vernon Churchill.
Funeral services to be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2004 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City, with Rev. Terry Butters, Kingston United Methodist Church officiating. Memorials may be made to The Salvation Army. Interment will take place in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644.
