LLOYD DAVID CORNISH,
77, of Kingston, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in his daughter’s home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 19, 1932 Kingston to Roy and Hazel Marie (Convis) Cornish.
Lloyd was a farmer among other things, raising dairy cows and sheep. He helped his parents with the farm and took over after his father’s death. Lloyd owned and operated the largest custom cutter operation East of the Mississippi. He logged over one million miles of trucking. Lloydie, as he was known to friends and neighbors, was a free spirit and loved life. As a young man he played harmonica in area bands where his parents went dancing. As a child he began collecting toys, trucks and trains; accumulating a large Lionel train collection. Lloyd still has the 1968 T-Bird that he brought his baby girl home in from the hospital. He loved animals, gardening and Christmas. Lloyd grew dish size Dahlias that he sold to the Cadillac Hotel in Detroit to use in beautiful crystal bowls as decorations in their rooms. The family still has plants that have been in the family for over 80 years. Lloyd worked for Kingston Community Schools as a bus driver and mechanic for 35 years.
Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Royleen (Jody LaCross) Martin of Kingsley; grandchildren: Katherine Martin of Traverse City; Rachel Martin of Kingsley and Renee Martin of Kingsley.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 2010 in Kingston Wesleyan Church with Pastor Len Wyatt officiating. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Cornish: David Lich, Fred Ruggles, Ken Distelrath, and Taylor Pease. Memorials may be made to Munson Hospice.
