LINTON FRED COOPER,
86, of Cass City died following a short illness Tuesday, May 17, 2011 in Covenant Health Care System, Cooper Campus, Saginaw. He was born August 6, 1924 in Kingston to Fred and Nellie (Peter) Cooper. He married Mary Ann Fortune August 9, 1962 in his mother’s home in Kingston.

Linton lived on the farm as a child. It was there his love for horses began. Linton was driving horses before he started school. His Grandpa owned the lumber yard in Kingston which had started as a sawmill in 1903. Grandpa built the house they lived in and most of the houses on that block. He was baptized in and was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church. He served with the US Navy from 1944 until 1946 during World War II. Before entering the service, Linton worked as a substitute letter carrier with the US Postal Service covering his Dad’s route. After his time in the military he worked as a rural letter carrier in the Kingston area. He retired from the Post Office after over 37 years. Linton was a charter member and life member of Kingston VFW Post #5317. He was an active member of Caro Moose Lodge #1049 for over 30 years. Linton loved to bowl. He was a member of bowling leagues in Marlette, Mayville, Frankenmuth and Lapeer for over 50 years. He was secretary of the Frankenmuth Bowling Association for over 10 years. He participated in the Men’s ABC International Bowling Tournament for 30 years and was presented his 30 year plaque for doing so. Linton enjoyed deer hunting with his uncles for over 30 years. In the last several years he enjoyed playing Euchre at the Lodge and Bunko at Gilligan’s. Linton loved sports. He was a particularly devoted Tiger baseball fan. Linton and Mary Ann enjoyed camping, spending 6 months of the year at their nephew’s campground in Everett. Many campers enjoy their lunch or dinner at a picnic table Linton made.

Linton is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; brother: Max (Mary Ann) Cooper of Cass City; sisters: Shirley Wolfe of Cass City, Janet Lottridge of Saginaw; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service held 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Pastor Robert Easlick officiating. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery, Kingston. Memorials may be made to Mooseheart Child City and School, Inc., Route 31, Mooseheart, IL 60539 or Kingston United Methodist Church. Military honors under the direction of Kingston VFW Post #5317.
