MARGARET CLELAND
Margaret Cleland, 93, of Ubly, died Thursday, June 9, 2005 in her home after a long illness. She was born April 20, 1912 at home in Sanilac County to Ernest and Annie (Nicol) Pelton. She married Alexander Cleland May 26, 1933 in Peck. He died May 21, 1970.
Margaret was a true pioneer. She did what had to be done on the family’s Centennial Farm. She would put up fencing, pour concrete, work in the fields, do necessary carpentry work, whatever needed to be done, Margaret did it. In later years, as she became wheelchair bound, she still continued to run her household and manage beautiful gardens. Margaret loved her vegetable and flower gardens and enjoyed sewing.
Margaret is survived by her children: Robert Cleland of Cheboygan; Jean Osentoski Cleland of Cass City; grandchildren: William (Lori) Cleland, Robert Cleland, David (Laurie) Matthews, Mark (Chris) Matthews, Stacey (Dennis) Lehman; great grandchildren: A J Cleland, Heather Cleland, Caroline Lehman, Tracey Popham, David Matthews, Jeremy Matthews, Elizabeth Matthews; special niece, Carol Laming of Ubly; sister, Naomi Wallace of Cass City; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers: Jack Pelton and Frank Pelton; brother-in-law, Raymond Wallace.
Funeral service held 3:00 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 2005 in Kranz Funeral Home with Rev. Ellen Burns of Shabbona United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice. Pallbearers for Mrs. Cleland: Robert Cleland, Dick Wallace, David Matthews, Mark Matthews, William Cleland, Eric Soderberg.
