December 8, 1941 — March 26, 2012

CLARENCE "SKIP" NELSON CHURCHILL,
70, of Cass City died following a short illness Monday, March 26, 2012 in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center. He was born December 8, 1941 at home in Cass City to Elliott Glenn and Jennie Marie (Crawford) Churchill. He married Thelma "Bobbie" Joyce VanValkenburgh February 24, 1968 in Cass City Gun Club, Cass City.

Skip worked as a logger for Harold Whittaker Saw Mill for 23 years. He then began his own sawmill, C & J Sawmill, with his son which they operated for ten years. He worked for Al Lapeer's Body Shop and then retired from Michigan Sugar in 2010. Skip loved working on 2 cylinder John Deere tractors. He fixed and sold over 50 of them. He enjoyed working outside tending to his lawn, his garden, his flower beds and his rose bushes. Skip enjoyed woodworking projects of all sizes from garages and sheds to birdhouses.

Skip is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, "Bobbie"; children: Angelia (Mark) House of Cass City, Johnathon Churchill of Cass City, Melanie (Ryan) Radabaugh of Deford; grandchildren: Anthony, Katie, Matthew, Madison and Colin; sisters: Marion Hunter of Mayville, Margaret Springstead of Bad Axe, Dodie (Jerry) Babcock of Cass City, Helen (Wayne) Mellendorf of Cass City, Amy (Bill) Ford of Cass City, Bonnie (Ronald) Miller of Elkton, Sue Osbourn of Shelby Township; brother, Sonny (Nancy) Churchill of Cass City; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sisters: Virginia Anthes, Wattie Mallory, Marie Brown, Phyllis Churchill; brother, John Churchill.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2012 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Jackie Roe of Cass City United Methodist Church and Pastor Doug Richardson Chaplain United Hospice Service officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bobbie's brothers: Robert, Randy, Ray, Doug, Jimmy, Steve and Mike VanValkenburgh. Memorials may be made to United Hospice of Marlette.
