CARL A. PALMATEER, SR.
Carl A. Palmateer, Sr., 92, of Cass City, died peacefully Saturday, April 20, 2024 in Hills and Dales Healthcare, Cass City. He was born February 2, 1932 in Deford to Harvey and Vina (Spencer) Palmateer. He married Joyce C. McInally on January 20, 1967 in Caro.
Carl attended Cass City High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Ticonderoga and also performed shore patrol in Pensacola, Florida during the Korean War era. Carl was honorably discharged from the Navy having earned the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. Returning home and having earned a pilot’s license, he flew a fixed wing plane for the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Department. Carl’s job as a Tuscola County Sheriff’s Deputy led him to become the Chief of Police for the Village of Cass City. He also owned his own truck and worked for many trucking companies, eventually retiring from Holland Motor Freight. Carl was always on the go, with a good sense of humor, and the “gift of gab”. Carl was very community oriented and was a past member of the Cass City Rotary Club, Cass City Gavel Club, and the former Cass City Masonic Lodge. He was active as a Cub Scout Master and Boy Scout Leader for many years. Carl held the position of Village President of Cass City for eleven years. When he had the chance, he enjoyed deer hunting with his family and riding his motorcycle.
Carl is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons: Jim Palmateer, Carl (Frances) Palmateer, Jr., Joel Palmateer; daughter, Julie (Robert) Palmateer-Brown; step daughter, Pam Tyll; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his step daughter, Debra Ahern-O’Connor; sisters: Leota Anthes, Mabel Francis, Alma Darby, Marian Fredrick.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2024 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Pastor Christian Wright of First Baptist Church of Cass City officiating. Interment in Novesta Township Cemetery. Military honors conducted by Cass City V.F.W. Post #3644 and the United States Navy Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Cass City V.F.W. Post #3644.
