Arthur J. Caister, 83, of Cass City, died unexpectedly Sunday, September 13, 2015 in his daughter's home in Deford. He was born September 22, 1931 in Detroit the oldest of five children born to Wilford and Mary (Schweitzer) Caister. He married Marjorie Ann Bader April 12, 1952 in the Decker United Methodist Parsonage.
Arthur was a graduate of Cass City High School, Class of 1949. He joined the U.S. Air Force serving in Greenland where he learned the cooling and refrigeration trade. Arthur attended Cass Tech in Detroit for two years, receiving his Class III Electrical License. He worked for General Cable in Cass City as an Electrician, retiring after many years of service. Arthur also worked for Thumb Appliance and his own business, Caister Service Center repairing small appliances, heating and cooling systems. He was a member of Shabbona United Methodist Church since 1965. He sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and was a member of United Methodist Men. Arthur was a member of the Thumb Two Cylinder Club.
Arthur had a great capacity to love. He was a man of strong faith. He was a member of the generation who did great things with so little. Arthur could fix or make anything using only his imagination to guide him. He built three houses and two campers from the ground up. He was very well read and especially enjoyed Louis L'Amour Western novels. He also enjoyed fishing. Arthur's favorite place was Buckley, Michigan where he enjoyed his annual deer hunting trips with his sons and many family members and friends for the past 45 years.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children: Daniel Caister of Cass City, Durrell (Susan) Caister of Bay City, David (Rebecca) Caister of Caro, Deanna (Jeff) Schaufele of Deford, Douglas (Andrea) Caister of Cass City; grandchildren: Melanie (Rick) Hartwick, Jaime (Chris) Anthes, Dan (Missy) Caister, Nathaniel Caister, Allison Caister, Jessica (Ivory) Smith, Rachel Caister, Jasmine Caister, Rebecca Caister, Jenna Schaufele, Joshua Schaufele, Justin Schaufele, Hunter Caister, Jade Caister; great grandchildren: Laiken, Olivia, Janelle, Quenten, Kendall, Carson, Caden, Mia, Weston, Wiconi, Victoria, Adoro, Crimson; brother, Derald (Janet) Caister; sisters: Joanne (Eldon) Beachy; Janet Schwannecke; sisters-in-law: Helen Hubbard of Kingston, Donna (Gerald) Auten of Cass City, Sandra Bader of Cass City, Wanda (Ronald) Parrott of Mio, Audrey Halas of Royal Oak; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant child, infant grandchild and sister, Mary Lou (Herbert) Pallas.
Funeral service held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2015 in Shabbona United Methodist Church with Rev. Jayme Palaszeski officiating. Memorials may be made to Family Discretionary Fund. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Caister: Dan Caister, Nathaniel Caister, Joshua Schaufele, Justin Schaufele, Hunter Caister, Rick Hartwick, Chris Anthes.
