ARTIE BYERS,
65, of Silverwood died unexpectedly Sunday, February 19, 2012 in Phoenix, AZ while on a dream trip with friends to watch the drag races in Pomona, CA. He was born November 25, 1946 in Rockport, IN to Arkle B. and Eula A. (Mason) Byers. He married Christine Louise Emerson April 23, 1966 in Union Lake.

After graduating from High School Artie attended two years of trade school through Pontiac Motors and completed classes necessary for his apprenticeship through Oakland Community College to become a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker. He worked for General Motors Flint as a Tool and Die Maker retiring after over 30 years. He was a member of UAW local #1292 in Flint. Artie enjoyed playing all kinds of card games including poker, euchre and rummy. He loved to read especially science fiction. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and watching motorcycle races and drag races. Artie was an American Red Cross blood donor donating over 30 gallons throughout the years. But most important to Artie was spending time with his family, especially taking his grandchildren fishing.

Artie is survived by his wife, Christine; children: Michael (Brigette) Byers of Rochester Hills, Amy (Ken) Kotsch of Kingston, Jeanna Byers of Silverwood; grandchildren: Abigail, Nathan, Alex, Benjamin, Malcolm; Artie and Christine shared their home with many nieces and nephews throughout the years including: Katelyn, Lorialyn, Myrna Sue, Elizabeth (Fred), Peggy, David. Additional family includes: sister, Tammy (Albert) Terpenning of Marlette; nieces and nephews: Scott Sowinski, Silas Anderson, Adam Terpenning, Aura Bearup, Victor Mason, Laurie Orr. He was preceded in death by his sister, Myrna Turner; brother, Lucky Mason; his parents.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2012 in Kranz Funeral Home, Kingston with Rev. Debra Brown of Kingston United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Kingston Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Red Cross. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
