Donald L. Buehrly, 82, of Cass City, died following a long illness Sunday, June 8, 2014 in Tendercare Nursing Facility, Cass City. He was born August 16, 1931 at home in Greenleaf Township, Sanilac County to Lawrence W. and Ethel (White) Buehrly.
Don served in the U.S. Army. He worked for General Motors in Flint, Active Industries in Elkton and Cass City Manufacturing before his job as a crane operator for Sebewaing Industries which he held for 27 years. Don also was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Farm Bureau, and Caro American Legion Post #7. He was a former trustee on the Elkland Township Board for eight years. Don served as President for the North Port Huron District of United Methodist men's group for eight years. He was a member of Cass City United Methodist Church and past member of the Cass City Laymen's Club. He served as a Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Don worked as a volunteer at Tendercare Nursing Facility for 11 years, a job he enjoyed very much.
Donald is survived by his sister-in-law, Louise Buehrly of Cass City; nephew, Larry (Tamara) Buehrly of Cass City; niece, Christine (Ken) Harris of Annapolis, MD; 3 grand nephews; one grand niece; several cousins. He is preceded in death by his sister, Esther Buehrly; brother, Dale Buehrly.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 in Cass City United Methodist Church with Rev. Jackie Roe, officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Military honors under the direction of U.S. Army and Caro American Legion Post #7. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church or Special Olympics.
