LAURA BELLE BRYANT,
93, of Cass City, died Saturday, May 29, 2010 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro, following a short illness. She was born January 26, 1917 at home in Bethany Township, Michigan to William and Lottie (Hearn) Acton. She married Lloyd E. Bryant September 2, 1939 in Lansing. He died February 6, 1995.
Laura graduated from St. John’s High School in St. John’s Michigan. She and Lloyd owned and operated the Gamble store in Cass City for 30 years. Laura took great pride and enjoyment in the Gambles Toyland in the basement of the store. She was a founding member of the former Business and Professional Woman’s Club and the now Cass City Woman’s Club, AAUW, Hills and Dales General Hospital Auxiliary, Rawson Memorial Library Reading Club. Laura was a member of the former Salem United Church and the now Cass City United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer for American Red Cross Blood drives and for funeral and wedding dinners at her church including Dorcas dinners. She was a founding member of the Cass City Lioness club. Laura loved to read, travel and play cards. She was very active in her church. She enjoyed flower gardening and socializing with her friends and family.
Laura is survived by her children: Sandra Lee (James) Gustin of Overland Park , KA, Michael (Janet) Bryant of Cass City, Diana Taylor of Bad Axe, Pamela (Charles) Scarletta of Columbus, OH; grandchildren: Gillian (Mike) Kelley, Ruby (Derek) Doerr, Nathan Bryant, Jonathan Taylor, Stephanie (Steve) Taylor Hamilton, Blaine Taylor, Michelle (David) Horn, Matthew (Michelle) Gustin, Lewis Thick, William Thick; great grandchildren: Emma, Sam, Harper, Nicholas, Katie, Neill, Catie, Ella, Sophia, Maya and David; sisters: Rachael (John) Schumaker of St. Johns, Luella Horton of Owosso; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by sisters: Viola Yeager, Thelma Acton Walden; brothers: Robert Acton, Leslie Acton, Ray Warner; son-in-law, David Taylor.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 in Kranz Funeral Home Cass City with Rev. Paul Donelson of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Rawson Memorial Library, AAUW Scholarship Fund or Cass City United Methodist Church.
