William Britt

WILLIAM HOWARD BRITT,
70, of Cass City, finished his race Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in Covenant Medical Center, Saginaw, with his family by his side. He was born March 22, 1943 in Bad Axe to Howard and Catherine (MacLachlan) Britt. He married Judy Ann McIntosh February 22, 1963 at Grant United Methodist Church.

Bill graduated from Cass City High School in 1961. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in education in 1965. Bill started teaching in Owendale-Gagetown School District in the fall of 1965. He soon moved into administration, spending most of his career as Elementary School Principal, later becoming K-12 Principal until his retirement in 2002. He taught for the migrant program for several years through Unionville-Sebewaing Area Schools. Bill loved camping, motorcycling, and snowmobiling. When the girls were young, the family enjoyed many days on trail tours and camping trips. Bill loved farming on his small farm. He enjoyed turkey hunting and deer hunting, especially with his grandsons. Bill was very handy and knowledgeable about many things including plumbing, electrical, construction and vehicle maintenance. He was often described as kind, caring, and gentle to all those who came into his life. In 2005, Bill was honored by the Tyler Masonic Lodge #317 of Cass City as the Citizen of the Year. He was a long-time member of Shabbona United Methodist Church and a member of Novesta Church of Christ. He was a member of the Cass City Layman's Club for many years and regularly attended the Men's Prayer Breakfast each week in Cass City. His children and grandchildren were very special to him; he loved them very much. Bill and Judy recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Bill is survived by his wife, Judy; children: Catherine (Jeff) Healy of Cass City, Christine (Marty) Boote of Manchester, Caren (James) Guc of Cass City, Cori (Brad) Gniewek of Cass City; grandchildren: Steven (Heather) Walther, Lauren Walther, Caitlyn Healy, Ethan Healy, Logan Boote, Landon Boote, Dalton Boote, Jocelyn Boote, Kirsten Guc, Madilyn Gniewek, Mason Gniewek, Evelyn Gniewek, Easton Gniewek, Caralyn Gniewek; his 15th grandchild is expected in September; brother, Doug (Connie) Britt of Cass City; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Carl (Shirley) McIntosh of Williamston, Floyd (Linda) McIntosh of Cass City, Clarence (Karen) McIntosh of Presque Isle, Betty Bensinger of Ubly; many nieces and nephews. Bill is preceded in death by infant son, Bryan; brother-in-law, Kirk Bensinger; son-in-law, David Burnette.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Jeff Bader, Pastor of Cass River Bible Church officiating. Interment is in Elkland Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Britt: Steven Walther, Ethan Healy, Logan Boote, Landon Boote, Dalton Boote, Mason Gniewek, Easton Gniewek and nephew Mike Britt. Memorials may be made to Bay Shore Camp.
