VERA A. BRINKMAN,
91, died early Sunday morning, April 9, 2017, at her home in Southfield, MI surrounded by the love of her family. Vera was born January 2, 1926 in Cass City. She was the seventh of nine children born to Emory O. and Gladys I. (Perry) Lounsbury of Cass City.
Vera was a tomboy, strong willed and independent. She loved and respected her family. Vera graduated as valedictorian from Cass City High School class of 1943 and received an academic scholarship to Central Michigan University choosing instead to attend business college in Bay City. Upon graduation, she worked at several bookkeeping jobs including a physician's office and an automobile dealership.
Numbers were "her thing". She was always very exacting and precise, not to mention a math whiz and loved games of any kind.
After a whirlwind courtship, she married W. Loren Brinkman on November 10, 1945. Together, she and Loren enjoyed 61 years of marriage prior to his death in 2007. She and Loren genuinely enjoyed each other as life partners and best friends. They traveled extensively throughout their entire marriage. After official retirement from Skyline Studios, the commercial art business which they owned where she served as office manager, they continued to work together at Birmingham Area Senior Citizen Center (BASCC), he as an art instructor and she in the office. Together, they had a strong faith in God, commitment to the Methodist Church, each other and their children and grandchildren.
Vera is survived by her daughter, Lauren (David) Landaw of Livonia; grandchildren: Loren M. Brinkman of Charlotte, NC, Andrew G. Brinkman of Ferndale; daughter-in-law, Colleen Brinkman of Royal Oak; sister, Carol Strecker of Saginaw; many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her son, Michael Brinkman; siblings: Leslie (Lucille) Lounsbury, Lyle (Margaret) Lounsbury; Norris Lounsbury, Ruth Lounsbury, Jessie (Alfred) Goodall, Harland (Elenora) Lounsbury, Lynn "Joey" Lounsbury.
