Richard Bondy

RICHARD GORDON BONDY,
87, of Deford died Monday, August 20, 2012, following a short illness in United Hospice of Marlette Residence Center, Marlette. He was born July 31, 1925 in Detroit to Vincent A. and Estella T. (Doyle) Bondy.

Richard grew up in Hazel Park and Highland Park. Later, wishing to leave the city behind, his family moved to Emmett. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. In 1942 Richard moved to Troy and resided there until 1991 when he moved to Sterling Heights and then his final move was to Deford to be close to his longtime friends, Lynne and Bill Lowman. Richard attended 15 months of drafting school in Angola, IN receiving a Drafting and Design Associate Degree. His early work experience included a stint with JD Webb designing conveyors and at the General Motors Tech Center working in auto manufacturing. But Richard's real work was as an Accountant. He worked for Accounting Associates in Clawson for 5 years and then for Custom Bookkeeping in Berkley for over 20 years until his retirement.

Richard was a member of Karl E. Stitt American Legion Post in Detroit, Father John Lynch Council #4188 of Knights of Columbus in Clawson and Royal Oak. Richard was a lapidary for nearly 15 years. He enjoyed faceting beautiful stones into bolo ties, belt buckles and other beautiful pieces for family and friends. He enjoyed small game hunting including pheasant, quail, partridge and squirrel. Richard also enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. He was a member of the Detroit Sportsman's Club.

Richard is survived by his brother, Ralph J. (Mary) Bondy of Utica; sisters: Dolores M. (A. Warren) Huard of Clinton Township, Carol E. (Dr. Richard) Horsch of Mayville; several nieces and nephews; longtime friends, Lynne and Bill Lowman of Deford. He is preceded in death by two nieces; aunts: Jeanette Bondy, Cecille Bondy, Loris Bondy, Monica Bondy, Clarisse Bondy, Louise Doyle; uncles: Alphonse Bondy, Fred Bondy, Mark Bondy, Norm Doyle, Melvin Doyle.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 23, 2012 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating. Interment is in St. Columbkille Catholic Cemetery, Sheridan Corners. Pallbearers for Mr. Bondy: Ralph Bondy, Bill Lowman, Brent Hudson, Scott Huard, Ryan Lowman and Phillip Fenton. Memorials may be made to Lourdes Nursing Home, 2300 Watkins Lake Road, Waterford, MI 48328. Military honors under the direction of the U.S. Army and Cass City VFW Post #3644.
