JAMES EDWARD BOLTON,
81, of Cass City passed away following a lengthy illness Friday, December 31, 2021 at home in the company of his family. He was born July 3, 1940 in Kalamazoo, the youngest child of Merle and Pearl (Maffit) Bolton. He married Saundra Kay Towles April 30, 1966 in Portage.
Jim attended Vicksburg Community schools and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from Western Michigan University in 1962. A veteran, he served with the United States Marine Corps. during the Bay of Pigs invasion. Following his time in the Marine Corps, Jim went back to WMU to take chemistry classes and met his lab partner and future wife, Saundra.
Jim was employed by the Federal Land Bank Association of Caro, Farm Credit Services of East Central Michigan, Chemical Bank and Trust, and as a real estate broker and licensed real estate appraiser. He was past president and Paul Harris Fellow Award recipient of the Cass City Rotary Club. Jim was a member of the Ithaca Rotary Club, as well as, the Caro Rotary Club. He was also an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Jim’s main interest was nature and being outside. He raised mums and pumpkins and for almost twenty years he was known as the “mum guy”. Jim loved stocking his ponds with fish and had a daily schedule of feeding them and the numerous birds and critters that came up to the house. Jim shared his passion of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. He raised his kids with a strong value of hard work and appreciation of nature, even if they were not very receptive. When the grandchildren came to visit, they knew they would feed the fish and birds, go fishing, and take tractor rides with their “Pop Pop”.
Jim is survived by his wife, Saundra; son, Michael (Aubrey) Bolton of Omro, WI; daughter, Kathleen (Andrew) Kaun of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren: Anelize Bolton, Alexander Bolton, Olivia Kaun. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Daniel Bolton.
Memorial service held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2022 in Kranz Funeral Home, Cass City with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Cass City. Family and friends may share memories, prayers, and photos with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
