EDWARD PETER BILICKI,
89, of Deford, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 in his son’s home in Oriental, North Carolina. He was born July 27, 1920 in Caro to John and Valeria (Pawlak) Bilicki. He married Virginia M. Kapala October 2, 1943 in St. Michael Catholic Church, Wilmot.
Ed served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a Master’s degree in Elementary Education and Special Education Administration. Ed taught in the Deford School and later for Caro Community Schools retiring after 43 years as Special Education teacher. During many summer vacations from teaching Ed worked for Defoe’s Ship Building in Detroit. He was a consummate educator; always teaching grandchildren and area neighbor children with math games, card games and puzzles. Ed was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he served as an usher, Parish Council member, and Eucharistic minister. He served as the sexton for St. Michael Cemetery for many years. Ed was a member of the Cass City/Gagetown Knights of Columbus #8892, Michigan Association of Retired Personnel, Association of Retired Person, Polish American Club and was a member of the Kingston Community Schools Board for eight years. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, bowling, reading and woodworking.
Ed is survived by his wife, Virginia; children: Karen (Gareth) Smith of Brighton, Lynn (Steve) Duriga of Tucson, AZ, Edward John (Rainell) Bilicki of Oriental, NC, Jane (Tom Harris) Bilicki of Kalamazoo; grandchildren: Edward, Jed, Carrie, Sarah, Julie, Heather; great grandchildren: Green, Braden, Gavin, Linnea, Aven and Brady; sister-in-law, Terry Bilicki; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law: Victoria (Joseph) Hank, Lottie (Edward) Legienze; brothers and sisters-in-law: John (Helen) Bilicki, Anthony (Mary) Bilicki; Chester Bilicki.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 in St. Michael Catholic Church with Rev. Charlie Hammond of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sandusky officiating.
