CASIMIR A. BARTNIK,
92, of Cass City, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 9, 2014 in Covenant Health Care System, Cooper Campus, Saginaw. He was born January 9, 1922 in Detroit to Stanley and Frances (Kohan) Bartnik. He married Josephine Mary Pilarz January 25, 1947 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bad Axe. She died February 23, 1997.

Cass was a member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church. He was a 4th degree Knight with the Cass City Gagetown Knights of Columbus Council #8892, at one time holding the positions of Warden, Admiral 4th Degree, Faithful Navigator and Trustee. As a member of the Knights of Columbus Cass helped provide funeral honors for many 4th Degree Knights across the state. Cass served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe: France, Belgium, Holland and Germany serving in the Anti Aircraft Artillery division. He was a member of the Cass City VFW Post #3644 serving on their Military Honors Firing Squad for many years. After Cass came home from the military Cass began working with his brother, Henry together they owned and operated Bartnik's Service for over 34 years. Cass was talented repairing and reconditioning equipment including tractors, pickups and trucks. He was also a talented blacksmith. Cass always had a large, beautiful garden. He sold produce to area stores and to neighbors and friends who stopped. Cass had a great memory and was a great story teller. He was gentle, kind, generous and honest.

Cass is survived by his son, John (Joann) Bartnik of Saginaw; grandson, Jeff Bartnik; great granddaughter, Izabella; brothers: Henry (Elfriede) Bartnik of Cass City, Chester Bartnik of Pontiac; sister-in-law, Val Bartnik of Detroit; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Bartnik; sisters-in-law: Helen Bartnik and Frances Bartnik.

Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 in St. Pancratius Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Bala and Sr. Maria Dina Puddu MC, officiating. Vigil service 7 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014 will be led by Sr. Maria Dina Puddu MC with Honor Guard provided by 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Bartnik: Jerry Bartnik, Dave Bartnik, Peter Bartnik, Chester Bartnik, Jr., Jeff Bartnik, Dale Cunningham and Courtney Hodges. Military honors under the direction of U.S. Army and Cass City VFW Post#3644. Memorials may be made to Charity of the Donor's Choice.
