DAVID JOSEPH BARRIOS
David J. Barrios,70, of Cass City, formerly of North Branch, died Wednesday, March 21, 2018 in Covenant Medical Center Cooper Campus, Saginaw, following an extended illness. He was born October 27, 1947 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Clayton Joseph and Doris Annette (Martinez) Barrios. He married Nancy Kay Adamczyk June 21, 1969 in St. Michael Catholic Church, Wilmot.
David attended Catholic school, was an altar server and graduated from Immaculata High School in Marrero, Louisiana in 1966. He was an avid athlete and received All State and All West Bank (New Orleans) recognition as a baseball player in High School and was the only high school pitcher to strike out Rusty Staub during competition high school baseball in the New Orleans area. David enrolled in the US Air Force in 1966 and was stationed at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda where he met the love of his life, Nancy.
He received an Associate Degree in Business from Detroit College of Business, a BA in Business Management and a MSA in Business from Central Michigan University. David was employed by General Motors - V-8 Engine Plant in Flint for many years, and served in a variety of positions including Supervisor, Training and Development Supervisor and Quality Systems Engineer. He later transferred to GM Powertrain Headquarters in Pontiac where he worked as Senior Supplier Quality Engineer until his retirement in 2002. After retirement he worked as a consultant for Fast-Tech Industries in Saginaw, Grede Foundries in Vassar and Ford Motor Company. Since 2012, David served as a licensed Property and Casualty team member for his son, Chris at the Chris Barrios – State Farm Agency in Caro. David enjoyed baseball, bowling, golf, Blooper Ball and was a skilled Texas Hold ‘em Poker player. He was also an avid LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints fan. David was a longstanding member of the North Branch American Legion Post #457, and a Third-Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus – Central Thumb Council #8892, where he was recently honored as Knight of the Year.
David is survived by his wife, Nancy and their children: Kelly (Tom Mitchell) Barrios Ross of Lapeer; Michael Barrios of North Branch; Kerry (Todd) Rose of Otter Lake; Christopher (Stephanie Johnson) Barrios of Caro; grandchildren: Jalen Ross, Jordyn Ross, Gabriel Rose, Grant Rose, Garet Rose, Rodney Barrios; great grandson, Alexander Ross; sister, Darlene (Brent) Tomlinson of Kingwood, TX; special aunt, Rosalie (Paul) Rodrigue of Marrero, LA; brothers-in-law: John Adamczyk of Caro; Ron (Lawanda) Adamczyk of Kingston; Don (Diane) Adamczyk of Marlette; Lenny Adamczyk of Kingston; Larry Adamczyk of Kingston; Randall Adamczyk of Kingston. Many nieces, nephews, clients and special friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Joseph Barrios.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2018 in Our Lady Consolata Parish, St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City with Rev. Christian Tabares officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Wilmot. Military honors conducted by the North Branch American Legion Post #457 and the United States Air Force. Knights of Columbus Central Thumb Council #8892 will pray the rosary at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
