Robert J. Atkin, 76, of Cass City, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 in St. Marys Medical Center, Saginaw, after a short illness. He was born August 13, 1928 in Otisville to Lloyd A. and Frances P. (Smith) Atkin.
Robert served in the U.S. Navy after World War II. His first job after returning from the service was as a welder on the Mackinac Bridge. He retired from General Motors in 1988 after nearly 30 years as a Skilled Tradesman. Robert was a member of the Flint VFW Post #3087, Flint American Legion Post #342, where he served as Finance Officer, and was a member of the Eagles Club #629. Robert loved to dance, golf and bowl. The City of Flint sponsored him in an American Bowling League Tournament in Texas.
Robert is survived by his son, Mark (Keri) Atkin of Cass City; granddaughter, Stacy Atkin of Missouri; sisters: Joan (Harold) Little of Cass City, Jean (George) Bernaldi of Florida and special friend, Carol Caldwell. He is preceded in death by his son, Scott Atkin, who died in 1997; mother, Frances (Maurice) Justin, and father, Lloyd Atkin.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2005 at Novesta Church of Christ with Pastor JT Mabe, Mizpah Missionary Church, officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Novesta Church of Christ. Military services under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery.
