ALBERT JAMES ANTHES,
94, of Cass City, died Friday, February 6, 2015 in Tendercare Nursing Facility Cass City following a brief illness. He was born January 24, 1921 at home in Cass City the youngest of three children born to Amasa and Elizabeth (Ott) Anthes. He married Laura Marie Tesho on his 21st birthday, January 24, 1942 in the Trinity United Methodist Church parsonage. She died March 5, 1988. He married Gladys Robinson September 4, 1988 in Cass City. She died February 28, 2012.
When he was a young boy, his family moved to the farm where he worked and spent his life. Albert and his brother were cash crop farmers and they owned and operated Anthes Brothers Building Movers for many years. Albert enjoyed fishing and spent many winters with his son-in-law, other relatives, and friends spear fishing through the ice. But Albert loved Florida and wintered there for more than 30 years. Albert was a talented builder and wood worker. He made toy boxes, many pieces of miniature furniture for grandchildren, and many birdhouses that he gave to people from all over the United States, Canada and even Germany. In November when his health kept him from going to his beloved winter residence in Arcadia, Florida he moved into the home of his daughter until a few days before he died. Al was very matter of fact about life and death and he wouldn't hesitate to give you his opinion. He enjoyed his many neighborhood friends and those he shared coffee with on Thursday mornings.
Albert is survived by his children: Linda and Dailey Parrish of Cass City, Aaron and Sharon Anthes of Gagetown; grandchildren: Lisa and Martin Venema and Denise and Doug Hindenlang; great grandchildren: Libby, Andrew, Jenna, Todd; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Glen and Jean Gavriloff of Arcadia, FL who kept a watchful eye over Al allowing him to continue to winter in Florida. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mabel (John) Ondrajka; brother, Amasa (Virginia) Anthes.
A memorial service will take place in the spring of 2015 with Rev. Jackie Roe of Cass City United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cass City United Methodist Church or Revive C.C. Ministries. Family and friends may share memories, prayers and stories with the family at www.kranzfuneralhome.com.
