RETA LOUISE ALSTON
Reta Louise Alston, 106, of Cass City, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. She was born January 23, 1902 in Lone Elm, AR to Thomas Jefferson and Elba Alice (Shaver) Wisdom. She married Dewey Curtis Alston December 21, 1919 in Lone Elm, AR. He died August 24, 1979.
Reta worked Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, retiring after over 20 years. She ran a boarding house in Arkansas and picked cotton in her younger years. Reta loved to garden, can fruits and vegetables and to crochet, making many beautiful afghans. She was an extraordinary, caring, loving person, always smiling. She had many stories to tell about growing up in Arkansas with her big family. She loved to walk and was always looking to be helpful and productive. Reta was the matriarch of her family, who she loved and cared for throughout her whole life.
Reta is survived by her grandchildren: Janna (Dave) Otto, Ed Fleming, Tammy (Scott Schimmelmann) Lawrence, Sandy (Don) Bitner, Debbie Beckham, Carolyn Lawrence; 13 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by all four of her children: Patsy Lawrence, DC (Dewey Curtis) Alston, Zella Mae Alston, Imogene Fleming; her grandson, Jeffrey David Fleming; and all 18 of her brothers and sisters.
Memorial service held 11:00 a.m. Sunday, September 14, 2008 in Kranz Funeral Home �- Cass City with Debra L. Kranz, Funeral Service Celebrant officiating. Interment will be in Novesta Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
