WILLIAM JOHN AGAR
William John Agar, 74, of Decker, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 in Select Specialty Hospital, Saginaw. He was born March 19, 1934 in his Grandma’s house in Elmwood Township to Harmon and Blanche (Smith) Agar. He married Joann F. Anderski June 27, 1959 in Saginaw.
John served in the U.S. Air Force. He completed his toolmaker apprenticeship through Ford Motor Company and earned his journeyman card in 1958. John worked for tool companies in Saginaw before beginning work for Walbro as a tool engineer in 1983. He retired from Walbro in 1997. John was a 4H leader for nearly 30 years teaching leather craft, photography, rocketry and woodworking. He was a member of the Sanilac County Fair Board, the Cass City Historical Society, and the Cass City Geneology Society and did a great deal of work on the research of the Elkland Township Cemetery map. John enjoyed golf and was a member of a golf league for many years. He truly enjoyed his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Joann; children: Stephen (Nesa) Agar of Belleville, Terry (Charles) Fahrner of Sebewaing, John (Barbara) Agar of Dearborn Heights; grandchildren: Kristy (Larry) Dumond; Andrew Fahrner, Aaron Fahrner, Robert Agar, Benjamin Agar, Daniel Agar; brother, Harmon (Nancy) Agar of Hart; sister, Thelma Chaussee of Westland; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by sisters: Marilyn Weston, Elizabeth Verhuele.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 in Colwood United Brethren Church with Pastor Phil Whipple officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Lung Association or Cass City Historical Society. Military honors under the direction of Cass City VFW Post #3644 and the U.S. Air Force.
