Mihalina M. Adamczyk (Mary), 88, of Kingston, died Monday, November 16, 2009 in Marlette Regional Hospital surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born September 22, 1921 in Detroit to Thomas and Catherine (Tarnoska) Lewicki. She married John E. Adamczyk September 20, 1947 and they settled in Kingston.
Mary was a kind, caring woman who worked hard every day of her life. She was a very talented artist in her youth, but the depression didn’t allow her to pursue art as a career. Mary came from a large family and grew up on a farm in Silverwood and continued farming throughout her life. In her late teens she moved to Detroit where she did housekeeping and worked as a nanny. Later she worked for Lay’s Potato Chips, then at Cadillac Motors in Detroit where she was asked to be a Union Steward. She also worked for a short time at General Cable in Cass City.
Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always remembered each one with candy at Valentine’s Day and Easter, and would often visit them on their birthdays and during the Holidays. Her kindness wasn’t just limited to family. She was kind to everyone, often giving a dollar bill or change from her pocket to young people who were working at the gas station after school or in businesses where she shopped, telling them to buy themselves a pop or a hamburger. She remembered not having much when she was their age and it made her happy to share what little she had with them.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Dave) Barrios of Cass City; sons: John (Carolyn) Adamczyk of Caro, Ron (Lawanda) Adamczyk of Kingston, Donald (Diane) Adamczyk of Marlette, Larry Adamczyk, Lenny Adamczyk and Randall Adamczyk of Kingston; daughter-in-law Diane Adamczyk of Kingston; brothers: Henry (Jean) Lewicki, Walter Lewicki of Silverwood; eighteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John Adamczyk; son Allen M. Adamczyk; parents Thomas and Catherine Lewicki; sisters: Jean Kraus, Estelle Mack, Rose Turner; brothers: Frank Lewicki, John Lewicki and Stanley Lewiski.
