EMMA JOSEPHINE ACKERMAN,
98, of Cass City, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Satchell's Christian Retirement Home, Caro, following a brief illness. She was born February 26, 1916 in Colfax, IL to Henry Jacob and Rosalie Josephine E. (Muehlenpfort) Hadewig (later name changed to Hadeway). She married Dave Durban Ackerman August 11, 1935 in Flint. He died April 17, 2004.
Emma graduated from Fairgrove High School. She attended County Normal and completed her Bachelor of Education at Central Michigan University. She was a school teacher for 15 years, 13 of which she taught 4th grade for Cass City Public Schools at Deford Elementary School. Emma was a very active member of Cass City First Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir for over 40 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing bridge, reading, and traveling.
Emma is survived by her children: Sharon (Raymond) Laursen of Fairgrove, David (Charlotte) Ackerman of Midland, Edward Ackerman of East Lansing, Scott (Beth) Ackerman of Cass City; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grandson. She is preceded in death by sisters: Hilda Greenleaf and Lillian Campbell; brothers: Herman Hadaway and John Hadeway.
Memorial service held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Cass City First Presbyterian Church, Cass City. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Fairgrove.
