KATHLEEN “KATIE” ANN JACKSON
Kathleen Jackson, 87, of Cass City, died Thursday, December 21, 2017 in St. Mary’s Medical Center, Saginaw, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident,. She was born March 27, 1930 in Detroit the first of two daughters born to John Edward and Marguerite (Lynch) Flynn. She married Thomas Harold Jackson June 16, 1955 in Cass City. He died June 15, 1993.
Katie received her Bachelors Degree in Education and her Masters Degree from Central Michigan University. She held the honor of Central Michigan University Homecoming Queen in 1950. Katie began her teaching career at Cass City Public Schools as a Home Economics teacher where she taught for 39 years. Her students would say she was a great teacher and was very influential in the lives of many young people. Katie was a very active and loyal Cass City community member and was honored in 1999 as Cass City Citizen of the year. She, along with Barb Hutchinson and Jack Esau, revitalized the Cass City Historical Society. As part of the Historical Society, Katie was a big supporter of the cemetery tours reviewing and writing several scripts. She served on the Rawson Memorial Library board from 1999 to 2016 and was an ever-present fixture in the building.
Katie was a very active member of the Thumb Octagon Barn Agricultural Museum, serving on the executive committee and as a devoted historian, maintained the history book for the barn. She was the first chairman of the school house project. She was a costumed participant in the school tours so that children could experience the country school house setting and was instrumental in organizing the school house museum. Katie was an active member of St. Pancratius Catholic Church. She was a great cook, baker and pie maker. Katie loved spending time with her nieces and nephews and was the “fun” aunt.
Katie is survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Stevenson of Dearborn: nieces and nephews: David (Aisha) Stevenson of Anchorage, AK, Kathleen Stevenson of Dearborn, Matt (Joanne) Stevenson of Maui, HI, Jeanne Stevenson of Birmingham, Susan Stevenson of Saginaw, Mary (Brian) Benoit of Sugarland, TX, John (Sherry) Stevenson of Lago Vista, TX, Jude (Deanna) Patnaude of Midland, John (Ann) Patnaude of Seattle, WA, Jim (Mary) Patnaude of Lapeer, Kristin (Dirk) Lowry of Caro, Sally (John) Ratti of Washington Township, Elizabeth “Libby” McCoy of Vallejo, CA; brothers-in-law: James McCoy, Richard Patnaude; many great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Dougal Stevenson; sisters-in-law: Florence McCoy and Sally Patnaude.
Funeral service held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in Our Lady Consolata Parish, St. Pancratius Catholic Church, Cass City with Rev. Christian Tabares officiating. Interment will be in Elkland Township Cemetery, Cass City. Vigil service held Tuesday 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Rawson Memorial Library, Thumb Octagon Barn Agricultural Museum or Cass City Historical Society.
